All Year

  • Continually check your Class Schoology page. Here you will receive updates on scholarships, upcoming events, college rep visits, and other helpful resources
  • Continue to take a full course load of college-prep courses. Consider taking Dual Enrollment, Off-Campus Internship, Work Experience, or other electives that interest you!
  • Keep working on your grades. Make sure you have taken the courses necessary to graduate in the spring.
  • Continue to participate in extracurricular and volunteer activities. Demonstrate initiative, creativity, commitment, and leadership in each.
  • Use a planner, calendar, or other organizational tool to keep track of important dates, deadlines, and events.

Fall

  • If you have not developed a plan for what you would like to do after high school, meet with your counselor as soon as possible
  • Make sure to discuss your post-secondary plan with your counselor, teacher, parent(s)/guardian(s) or anyone else who is assisting you in the process.
  • If you are considering the military, make sure to take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). You can schedule this exam with a local recruiter.
  • Attend CV’s College Fair in November! Almost 200 colleges/universities/technical schools will be represented (November)
  • Give recommendation forms/requests for letters of recommendation to the teachers you have chosen and/or your counselor. Please provide at least 2 weeks’ notice prior to the application/letter being due. Include a list of your resume/goals/ambitions as well as instructions for how the letters are to be sent.
  • Complete a transcript request form for the schools you are applying to and be sure to include any additional required forms (such as a School Report Form, letters, etc). Please submit at least 2 weeks before the application is due.
  • Register for and take the ACT Assessment, SAT, or SAT II Subject Tests, as necessary.
  • If you need a formal test score report to be sent to your college/university, you will need to contact College Board (SAT) and ACT Student (ACT) directly. The high school does not send your test score report. We can only include test scores on your high school transcript.
  • College Board recommends applying for 4-6 schools (1-2 perfect fit schools, 1-2 back-up schools, and 1-2 reach schools).
  • If you are applying Early Action/Early Decision most deadlines are Oct 15th, Nov 1st, or Nov 15th.
  • If you are applying for regular admission, it is recommended to have applications submitted by Thanksgiving or Winter Break.

These forms can be obtained online: FAFSA, PHEAA www.pheaa.org and the CSS PROFILE® https://student.collegeboard.org.  These forms will be available October 1 of your senior year.
  • Do you need help completing the FAFSA? Attend the FAFSA Completion Lab in November!
