Jan. 28: Two-Hour Delay

Conestoga Valley School District will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, Jan. 28, due to weather/road conditions and out of concern for student and staff safety.

Buses will arrive at bus stops two hour later than normal.

Jan. 27: Flexible Instruction Day

Due to road and weather conditions and out of concern for the safety of our students and staff, CV will be utilizing a Flexible Instruction Day (FID) on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Offices will be closed and all after school activities are cancelled, as well.

The District has a webpage with information about FIDs - what they look like, where to go with technical issues, etc. This page will be incredibly useful in helping answer many of the questions you and your student may have about FIDs, so we ask that you start there with any questions before reaching out to your building principal/assistant principal, teacher, or technology department.

In addition, your student's Principal will communicate school-specific information to families prior to the start of the day.

Please note that the breakfast and lunch menus are subject to change when students return to buildings.

Should the weather necessitate more schedule changes beyond tomorrow, CV will communicate as early as possible.

Snow Day on Jan. 26

Due to the severity and expected duration of the inclement weather, Monday, Jan. 26 will be a snow day. The District will NOT be utilizing a Flexible Instruction Day (FID) on Monday. There will be no evening activities and offices are closed, as well.

Given the potential for this storm to impact more than just tomorrow's schedule, CV will communicate as early as possible regarding any impact on Tuesday's (Jan. 27) schedule. If the weather dictates that school cannot be held in person, the District will utilize a FID on Tuesday, Jan. 27, and that will be clearly confirmed via future communication.

Due to Monday' snow day, school will now be in session for a full day on Monday, Feb. 16 (President’s Day) which is a snow makeup day as per the district calendar.

Please note that due to the closure, next week's food menus are subject to change.

Changes to District Calendar Due to Snow Day

Due to the use of a snow day on December 2, 2025, the District will need to alter the calendar to make up for that closure.

The following changes will be made to the calendar:

  • Feb. 12, 2026 is now a full student day (was a previously scheduled early dismissal for students)
  • Feb. 13, 2026 is now an early dismissal for students (District Professional Development Day in the afternoon)
Inclement Weather Procedures

Should inclement weather cause a delayed opening, early dismissal, or closure of school, please become familiar with the below information and procedures.

Please note: if you do not receive an email/text/phone call but suspect there may be a delay or closure, please check the district homepage and social media accounts (linked below) and then double check your contact information in PowerSchool (parents/guardians) and/or Skyward (CV staff).

The District works as quickly as possible to update and utilize all of the above communication methods; if you do not see an update on a particular outlet mentioned above, please check the other outlets as they may have been updated more quickly.

PowerSchool Reminder: Complete Annual Forms

Every August, Conestoga Valley School District asks parents/guardians to complete several annual forms in PowerSchool, including the Annual Agreements and Contact Update forms. We are asking those families who have not yet completed those forms to do so ASAP. These forms are critical, especially as we approach the winter months where communication about inclement weather becomes vital.

To complete these forms, log into your PowerSchool parent account, select “Forms” from the menu, and fill out the Annual Agreements and Contacts Update forms. The Annual Agreements form should be completed for each student enrolled in the district.

Have a question about your account? Call your student's main office for assistance.

Support and Services Available to CV Community

The Conestoga Valley School District recognizes that some families may be experiencing changes in SNAP benefits. If you or someone you know could use extra support, there are services and resources available:

  • PA Navigate: Help finding food and other resources
  • PA211.org: Local assistance
  • Feeding PA: To find local food banks and other food assistance programs.
  • Grocery Outlet: Our local Grocery Outlet store, which is also an official corporate sponsor of CVSD, is offering Good Neighbor Cart, a cart (and more!) of food items that have been donated by the owners of Lancaster Grocery Outlet, some of their vendors, and also customers!
  • CV's Family & Community Resources Handbook: This free handbook includes resources and contact information for a variety of services in our area.
  • Free & Reduced Lunches: A reminder that families can apply for Free & Reduced Lunch status at any point throughout the school year. Visit our Food Services page for more information, including how to apply.
CVEF Announces Recipients of 2025 Fall Grant Cycle

The Conestoga Valley Education Foundation (CVEF) awarded $43,322.57 in grants during its 2025 fall grant cycle. The $43,322 also includes $5,000 in Pre-K scholarship funding. CVEF officially approved the grants at its October 24 meeting.

Below are the following grants that were approved:

  • Building a Thinking Classroom with Standing Whiteboards (Brownstown): This grant stems from the book, “Building Thinking Classrooms,” in which an optimal practice of vertical thinking is explored. Students can solve deeper thinking mathematical tasks on a vertical surface and students are able to stand up and engage more actively with the content and their peers. The vertical whiteboards allow math students to work in small groups and increase active thinking.

  • Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics (Fritz): Fritz is committed to transforming math instruction through the implementation of Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC) which shifts the classroom from passive learning to active thinking. To help implement BTC, this grant will allow for the purchase of double-sided, vertical dry erase boards with stands. As mentioned in the above grant, it has been shown that students can solve deeper mathematical tasks on a vertical surface.

  • Reset Room Completion (GHMS): The middle school received a grant from CVEF last school year to build a Reset Room. This grant will allow for the completion of the room with the addition of a second stationary bike and the required flooring to place underneath the additional bike.

  • Mobile Math Intervention Cart (GHMS): The Math Intervention Cart will provide teachers with easy access to high-quality math manipulatives and instructional resources. The tools and resources on the cart can be integrated into daily lessons and by making the resources easily accessible for all teachers through a mobile check-out system, the project will strengthen classroom instruction and promote a deeper conceptual understanding of mathematical concepts across grade levels.

  • Sensory Equipment (Brownstown): This grant will allow for the purchase of sensory equipment to help support Brownstown’s four autistic support classrooms. Equipment includes such items as a white noise machine, fold & go trampoline, scented therapy putty, noise reduction earmuffs, and more.

  • 4 Real Care Baby 4 Simulators (CVHS): With this grant, the high school will purchase four robotic babies to replace the outdated models currently being used. Students in Child Development 1 and Child Development 2 classes will utilize the simulators that boast new technology to provide a much more lifelike and accurate experience for students.

  • Hummingbird STEAM Robotic Kits (GHMS): These kits allow students to work in collaborative groups to physically build robots and then write code for the robots to follow. Students can use recyclables such as cardboard, water bottles, etc., to create the robots; students will then work through three challenges before having the opportunity to transfer their knowledge to build and program their own unique robot.

  • Open Gym for Infants Through Pre-K (Early Childhood Education): The equipment purchased with this grant will allow for a safe, developmentally appropriate indoor play space for infants through preschool-aged children and their families. Young children learn best through play and movement and the Open Gym will foster physical development, social-emotional growth, and family engagement while preparing children for long-term health and school readiness. Some of the items that will be purchased include sensory balls, scooter trikes, a portable basketball hoop, rainbow tunnel, and more.

  • Adapted Physical Education (Smoketown): Smoketown houses two autistic support classrooms and this grant will fund physical education equipment tailored to the students in these classrooms. The goal is to increase participation in physical education for students with significant disabilities and increase regulation of students with significant disabilities in the physical education setting. The grant will allow for the purchase of such items as adapted tricycles, slow-strike soccer balls, and a mini trampoline with handles.

  • Pre-K Scholarships (District-Wide): CVEF will fund scholarships for three-year olds in the district who attend CV’s Pre-K Counts program. Pre-K Counts provides free pre-kindergarten services to three- and four-year-olds and offers full day services in all four of CV’s elementary schools.

CVEF will award a second round of grants in the spring of 2026.

Transportation Reminders

As Conestoga Valley School District prepares for the first day of school tomorrow, families are being asked to be patient with busing over the first several days of school. As is typical for a new school year, there may be some delays (it is not unusual for buses to run 15-20 minutes behind schedule for the first week of school) as both drivers and families adjust to new routes and/or bus stops, students become accustomed to scanning their IDs, etc. Safety is the district's top priority and patience is appreciated over the next several days!

As a reminder, bus information can be found in PowerSchool. Families should recheck their student’s busing information the evening prior to the first day of school as the transportation department will be making minor tweaks to the bus schedules leading up to the first day of school.

Finally, kindergarten students must be met at the bus stop by an adult (18+) or an older sibling for the first two weeks of school (Aug. 20 - 29). Pre-K students will begin riding buses on Monday, Aug. 25. An adult (18+) with the green transportation card must be present at the bus stop in order for your child to be released. If an adult with the green card is not present, your child will be returned to school and will need to be picked up by a parent or guardian. And a reminder that first grade students are dropped off at the bus stop without requiring an adult or older sibling to be there unless requested by the parent to the Assistant Principal at the school.

2025-26 Back to School Guide

2025-26 Back to School Guide

Welcome back!

We hope that everyone had a fun, safe, and enjoyable summer break and that you are ready for the 2025-26 school year!

This document contains some important back-to-school information: what you might have missed over the summer, where to find important information, and more. It is not a comprehensive document, but rather is intended to give a district-wide overview of some key information as we start another school year. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your building principal and/or assistant principal(s), or the District Office (717-397-2421).

PowerSchool - General Information

PowerSchool is CV’s Student Information System (SIS). Parents/guardians can access student grades, schedules, contact forms, busing information, etc. A few reminders:

  • Parents/guardians must create their own user account. This allows you to make changes on your own and control how you receive information.
  • Parents/guardians were sent an email last week with information about how to complete the Annual Forms in PowerSchool. To complete these forms, please log into your PowerSchool parent account, select “Forms” from the menu, and fill out the Annual Agreements and Contacts Update forms. The Annual Agreements form should be completed for each student enrolled in the district.
  • Have a question about your account? Call your student’s main office for assistance.

PowerSchool - What’s New

New this year! CV is excited to announce that later this fall, we will launch PowerSchool’s MyPowerHub. MyPowerHub simplifies family engagement by providing families with centralized information ranging from frequently used apps (ex: Schoology, Seesaw) to student information, two-way communication, and more. MyPowerHub will also allow the district to move away from ParentLink for its one-way parent communication (texts, emails, automated phone calls) and shift to SchoolMessenger. SchoolMessenger, a PowerSchool product, has all the features of ParentLink so you will still receive emails, text messages, and phone calls. The District will send out ample communication leading up to the launch of MyPowerHub (including School Messenger), but in the meantime, you can get a headstart by signing up in advance to receive text/SMS messages so that you are ready to go when we go live with SchoolMessenger - just click here!

Transportation

Busing information will be available in PowerSchool the week of Aug. 11. Click here for instructions on how to access that information in PowerSchool. Please note: families should recheck their student’s busing information the evening prior to the first day of school as our transportation department will be making minor tweaks to the bus schedules leading up to the first day of school.

Food Services Information

Here is some important information from our Food Services Department as we get ready to head back to school:

Breakfasts are free again this school year for all students and any money remaining on student accounts from the previous school year will carry over into this school year!

Attendance

Excuse notes are required for all absences, late arrivals, and early dismissals. Please email an attendance note to:

Health information

Health data sheets for the 2025-26 school year are again available via a Google form. Please complete one form for each student. Call your student’s building with any questions. In addition, vaccination requirements can be found here.

CVVA

Conestoga Valley’s Virtual Academy (CVVA) is a premier provider of local K-12 cyber education. CVVA has learning spaces at 504 Mt. Sidney Road, Gerald Huesken Middle School, and Conestoga Valley High School. Interested in learning more or speaking to a CVVA staff member? Click here!

New Faces

CV is welcoming a host of new administrators in our schools this year.

Dr. Kelly Galbraith joined CV earlier this month as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, a new position at the District. And in July, Dr. Lena Cordero was announced as the next principal at Fritz Elementary! She also started her new role earlier this month.

In the business office, Matthew Furlong was named CV’s Director of Finance and joined the District in July.

Finally, CV is happy to announce that Frank Hawkins, Jr. has been hired as CV’s next Athletic Director!

Where Can I Find out What Events Are Going On?

The district has calendars available online. There are both academic and activities calendars available in PDF format in addition to an html calendar. All calendars are updated as quickly as possible when events are added, removed, or changed, but if you have any questions, be sure to reach out to your student’s building or the event organizer.

In addition, be sure to check out the District’s social media accounts: Facebook and Instagram

All parents/guardians and staff members will also automatically receive CV’s weekly e-newsletter, the Buckskin Blast, every Thursday afternoon when school is in session.

Athletic events can be found on our athletics webpage.

The activities calendar is updated regularly throughout the year as events are added, times are confirmed, etc. We strongly recommend regularly checking the calendar throughout the school year for updated event information.

Have a Question? It’s Probably Answered Here:

If you have a question regarding almost any school-related issue, chances are it can be answered in the 2025-26 student handbook. The handbook is a board-approved document and thus changes are not made to it during the year unless presented to and approved by the board.

Youth Sports

There is a wealth of youth sports organizations within the District’s boundaries. However, it is important to note that youth sports organizations are NOT affiliates or official entities of the school district.

That being said, CV does make every effort to communicate as much information about youth sports as possible. Team information can be found on our athletics page and event-specific information, such as registration and camp information, can be found on our Community Bulletin Board page.

CVEF Awards Spring Grants

The Conestoga Valley Education Foundation (CVEF) awarded $69,030.89 in grant money during its 2025 spring grant cycle. CVEF officially approved seven grants at its April 25 meeting.

CVEF was formed in 1991 to encourage creativity and educational excellence in the classrooms of Conestoga Valley School District. Since its inception, CVEF has awarded more than $1,000,000 in grants to students, teachers and administrators. The programs and projects supported by these grants would not have been possible through regular school district budgets.

Below are the following grants that were approved this spring:

Reset Room (GHMS): This grant will fund a Reset Room at Huesken Middle School. This will provide students a space to go when they need to reset, take a pause in their day, or receive behavioral intervention. This space will also be used for restorative conferences and behavioral intervention. Eight middle school staff members received training from an expert in reset rooms and determined the necessary items to best equip the room, ranging from stationary bikes to weight blankets to stress balls and more.

Products Last – Wipebooks (GHMS): Wipebooks are portable, reusable whiteboards that provide flexible, non-permanent surfaces where students can work collaboratively on problem-solving tasks. These Wipebooks have been used at the elementary level (also funded by a previous CVEF grant) and have been well-received, leading the middle school to apply for its own grant to purchase Wipebooks. The Wipebooks and Notebooks also help reduce paper waste while promoting an eco-friendly, hands-on approach to learning. In addition, with the Wipebook Scan App, teachers can digitally collect and save student work, making it simpler to track individual progress and share growth.

Nuvo Recorders (Elementary-wide): This grant will allow for the purchase of Nuvo recorders for third, fourth, and fifth grade students in all four elementary schools. Nuvo recorders are equipped with a unique silicone key system which makes them much easier for all students to play successfully, but especially for those students with special accommodations, including varying motor skills. Playing the recorder is a key component of CV’s music curriculum for grades 3-5, and these Nuvo recorders will enhance that curriculum for all students.

Aviation Drones and Flight Simulator (CVHS): This grant will equip the high school aviation program with updated drones and a flight simulator to create a comprehensive, hands-on learning environment. The building’s current aviation program is in need of technology upgrades to meet the standards of aviation as a career; its current drones are outdated and there is currently no flight simulator of any kind. Flight simulators allow students to interact with a real flight environment setting and better prepare students for careers in the aviation field.

Class VR: Empowering Special Education Students with Virtual Reality (GHMS): “Class VR: Empowering Special Education Students with Virtual Reality” is an innovative program designed to integrate virtual reality technology into support programs for individuals with more complex disabilities. This technology provides a safer, more controlled environment for students to gain real-world experiences in social interactions, life skills, emotional regulation, and problem solving. Students are able to practice and experience real world scenarios in a virtual setting, creating a valuable opportunity to build confidence and independence before venturing into the community.

Puzzles for Preschoolers (School District): This grant will help enhance the district’s First 10 initiative, which is intended to bring together school districts, elementary schools, early childhood programs, and community agencies to improve the quality and coordination of education and care for young children and their families. Research by the University of Chicago found that children who do puzzles between ages 2 and 4 go on to develop advanced spatial skills that help promote success in STEM fields. This grant will allow for the purchase of numerous puzzles to be placed in all of CV’s pre-k classrooms. Students will also see enhancements in cognitive development, fine motor skills, critical thinking, and more. Puzzles will be rotated every six weeks to foster the continued excitement and challenge of new puzzles.

Baby Buckskin Bags (School District): This grant provides an opportunity for the district to deepen its investment in young children and their families, ensuring they have access to high-quality, early learning experiences and support networks. This grant will provide families of newborns with “welcome” bags that will contain items such as board books, teethers, CV Baby Buckskin Bib, and information promoting early learning, including materials on The Basics campaign and Young Mathematicians, both First 10 initiatives. Families will also receive a registration form for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library so that families can begin to receive one free book per month until their child reaches the age of five. The Imagination Library was also a previous CVEF grant.

CVEF will begin its next grant cycle in the fall of 2025. The foundation awards grants twice per year – the fall and spring of each school year.
